Project Exports, in essence, connotes setting up of projects overseas as construction and/or engineering projects. It does also involve the export of engineering consultancy or other engineering services / goods complement as desired by the project owner. Most of the overseas projects are contracted, in dollars, and large engineering contractors who have been operating overseas for quite some time have learnt the mechanism of necessary safeguards against fluctuations in dollars. A decade in the history of Indian Project Exports has just gone by - in which Indian engineering contractors and consultants have not only established an impressive array of clientele in diverse fields of operation across the globe but have also covered almost all sectors of civil engineering and industrial projects, most multilaterally funded and involved international competitive bidding procedure. In other words, as we take a closer look at the decade of project exports and in the face of the fact that project possibilities and commitments (in terms of capacity utilization) at home have been increasing and rather more lucrative, the project exports have substantially increased which can be perused from the following table:

| As a matter of fact, Project EPC, through an industry-wide consultative process, works out a Medium Term Strategy which identifies the important regions/markets for which a continuous watch is maintained not only for the new project proposals but also for any on-going/future market activities/changes both through printed/electronic media and through our missions overseas. Besides, in view of the importance and urgency of changing market scenario as it evolves and emerges, it is regularly reviewed and acted upon. Member companies are strategically inclined to undertake overseas projects since major share of their engineering contracting capacity (determined by their knowledge, skill-sets/technological capability, experience and financials) is deployed for large domestic infrastructure and other projects. Since this fairly attractive option at home is adding up to their financial and technological strengths, it is expected that more and more companies as they happen to acquire the necessary strengths would undertake increasingly more overseas projects. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
